ABOUT US

WHO ARE WE?

Under the Rug Theatre has been supporting and producing new writing by Scottish-based artists since 2023.

Formed in Glasgow by our Creative Director Mikael Phillips in response to the lack of representation in Scottish theatre; we aim to create, develop, and support art which acknowledges voices swept under the rug and share their stories with our audiences.

Our work stretches from plays, to devised pieces, to spoken word text etc. All of which is designed to invite you to take a peek under the rug and discover something new, something that makes you howl with laughter, cry with a stranger, sit in the absence of entertainment, learn something new, or even identify yourself in the stories we share.

OUR MISSION

We are based in the Central Belt of Scotland, but the stories we share can cross all borders and our hope is that one day they will. We're active in the present, but time is the greatest of storytellers so often we look beyond the here and now for the here and now.

We strive to make work which engages with our audiences to spark conversation. Talking to one another is the most powerful tool for debate, education, and influence we possess as human beings, and when a cup of tea and a Tunnocks tea cake is on the table, anything is possible. Our hope is that our work sparks conversation and stays with you long enough to want to talk about it.

So, bang the kettle oan and get the tea cakes oot!
